Radiator Installation

Replace a radiator like for like or upgrade? Pros, cons and costs

Updated 6 November 2026 · By the Radiator Installation team

Short answer: A like-for-like radiator swap is the quickest and cheapest option when the old radiator is the right size for the room, because the existing pipes and valves can usually be reused. Upgrading to a larger, double-panel or different style radiator costs more but is the better choice when a room is cold, you are fitting a heat pump or you want a different look.

When upgrading is right

  • The room never gets warm enough
